A Child's Heart

Sometimes I hear the things kids say and it just makes me laugh until I cry, but then, there are those times when the purity of a child's heart just astounds me and the simple things they say seem so wise that I am left speechless. It often seems that when nobody else knows what to do, a child with their innocense just walks up and says, let me give you a hug. I wrote a poem awhile back about a child's heart after reading some letters a class of 2nd graders wrote to some soldiers. There were no superficial words and nothing was being asked in return. It moved me to tears and I wished I had that kind of heart. A Child's Heart ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a child's Heart There is a pure love That seems to come From heaven above ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They may get mad And stomp their feet But what's in their heart You just can't beat! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sometimes they say The darnedest things That make us laugh And our hearts to sing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And then they are wise When they ask of us Why are they fighting What's all the fuss? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For we all know Hatred is learned So for a child's heart I have often yearned ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They miss their loved one Like me and you And many days This makes them blue ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ But at those times They see is cry They are there with a kiss To dry our eyes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oh how I wish I could go to the start And have the purity Of a child's heart ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
