What do you do when the phone rings in the middle of the night?

OK, I was just reading someone else's post and it reminded me of how I feel when the phone rings in the middle of the night. Most of the time, this is not good, but you can't let it go unanswered.
Right now, I have a decent chance of it not being a "bad" call in the middle of the night. My son is overseas and he's about 14 hours ahead of my time. Normally, he calles between midnight and 9am. I like those calls! Even though I don't get any sleep and I'm tired at work all day.
I've also gotten the following calls late at night:
The hospital - my brother was in a fight and they were calling me to tell me. At first I thought it was the police and I told them I wasn't going to bail him out of jail. When they said it was the hospital, I said I wasn't going to identify his body either. They said he wasn't dead yet, he was still in surgery. Then I "woke up" and realized what was going on. That was a long night.
When I lived with my mom, my uncle called to let us know that their father had just passed. My mom can sleep through anything, so I had to get out of my bed, go into her room and answer the phone that was ringing on her nightstand.
My other son called me right as I had falled alseep one night to say he was in the hospital and didn't know what was going on. He didn't tell me which hospital, just that they had taken him from work in an ambulance and he was throwing up really bad. I had to call the closest hospital to see if he was there so I knew where I needed to go. After a few hours, a couple IV's and some stomach medicines he was able to come home. They said it was viral...
What are some of your late night call experiences?

*ahem*
Whose post did you read? Was it mine? Now own up! :P
I haven't had those bad experiences you mention before but I would be quite worried to receive a call late at night - or in the middle of the morning. Sane people just don't call at that time.
Honestly, I think I would pray a little while picking up the phone - praying that it is nothing bad.

Guilty as charged. Hey, what can I say, you got my "creative juices" flowing!!! Thanks, you're the best :)
It is quite disarming to be woken up from a deep sleep, then to try to figure out what the person on the other end is calling for. But, since my son now calls between midnight and 9am, it would usualy be him, and that's not bad news.
