About 3 hours ago there is an earthquake in Central Sumatra. The tremors was felt by Singapore. I am working at 20 storey and the tremors is very great and it lasted about 3 mins. Everyone in the office, thought that something wrong with them. My instinct is that there is an earthquake in Indonesia. As Singapore is very small and near to Indonesia, we can felt the tremors if the earthquake is great. It is reported that the quake is a 6.6 Scale Ricter. In such situation, what will be your reaction?. Will you get panic and ran, or you wait for instruction to evacuate the building?. Please share :)

I have never experienced being in an earthquake so I'm not sure how I would react. My first thought would be to run, but where to? I think the best thing to do is to try to keep calm and wait for instructions to evacuate, otherwise you could have a stampede on your hands and make matters worse. It must be terrifying to be in that situation. Panicking is not the answer.

You are right there. If we are panic, our brain tends not to think straight. I was not panic on the first tremor, just feeling giddy and worried. But on the second tremor, when it felt more vigourous, I started to take my handbag and headed down... not panic actually, just to be more careful...lol.

I'm glad you are ok after that terrifying experience. Hope you don't have to go through it again.

It must be very frightening to experience earthquake for 3 minutes. There is no use to be panic. I will keep cool and see if I can run out of the room or building as quickly as possible. It may not be wise to take the lift down as there may be power failure. If that is not possible due to darkness (i.e. no lights or electricity), I will try to get under a table so as to protect myself from any falling objects.

Woh..I went down by the lift on the first and second tremors. Never think of the power failure though at that instant. Ya, if no chance to escape, get down under a table, that's what the expert said last nite on tv. Thank you for your input.

When I was so young, noyida; I used to experience earth quake when I was in Tokyo. Gosh, it was horrible. The shelf shooke so hard and almost fell when I was at home. I just sat there in shocked. lol But then, after a while, since we experienced the earth quake frequently, I got used to it. All I could do was just praying. Usually, when it's got bad; I left the building (if/when I was in the building). We even being trained what/how to do when the earth quake comes in Japan.

I see, so you are such an experience person in handling the quake, I guess. Japan is such a big country and always have the ability to control the situation due to frequent happening of the earthquake. It good that this type of training be done so people will be more aware what to do if it occurs again.

We did received instruction to evacuate the building after about 10 mins. It seem the building management people also got "giddy" with the tremors and panic on what to do next ...lol. Anyway, thank GOD there is no casualties.
