I'm not sure how I should have taged this discussion but, I wanted to let all the MyLot members know that the PayPal Spoof artist are getting slicker. As we all know for quite sometime now crooks have been sending fake letters to PayPal members trying to get their account information. PayPal tells us that they will never ask for any personal account information in an email and they don't. They also tell us that if the greeting of the letter doesn't contain our first and last name then we will know that it is a spoof(fake). Well my friends, the Spoof Artist have gotten more sophisticated. Yesterday my son received an email that looked like it came from the PayPal Service Care Center. It was addressed: Dear (sons first and last name). It went on to say that they had detected what appeared to be an unauthorized action on his account and that he should go to his account and check it to see if he had authorized the action. Notice that they didn't ask for any information they just provided a link which looked like and WAS a real link to PayPal. He clicked on the link but he had forgotten his password so he clicked on the forgot pass word about that time I came in and he was telling me about the email and what he had done. I told him to get out of the site that even though Pay Pal provides a link in their real emails they advise you to not use the link and to get completely out of the email, and go through your browser to reach your account. He did and then he contacted PayPal by phone. They told him that the email was a spoof (fake) and had him change his pass word. THE SPOOF ARTIST GIVE YOU A REAL PAY PAL LINK that they have some how set up so they can retrive your pass word when you log into Pay Pal through the link in the email. So my friends always follow PayPals advice even if you think it is a real message from them and get out of the email and go through your browser to access your account. About six months ago I got a phone call from someone who told me about the same thing concerning anauthorized use and he even knew some of the recent charges that I had used my card for. But, he asked for my card number and that threw up a flag. I refused to give it, hung up and called PayPal. They confirmed it was a spoof. So all you new PayPal users be careful about your accounts. I love my PayPal account and it serves me well. But if you aren't alert the Spoof Artist will try to get access to your account.

Thank you for putting some more information about this out there. There seem to be alot of people trying to pull this off these days. I ran into my own issues with this just yesterday. LOL.. I think your son and I got the same letter. But mine came to an email address that isn't even linked with my paypal in anyway which is what got me curious. I did as I've been warned and as you say. I opened an entirely new window and logged into PayPal through that. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my account - it was just someone's way of trying to get ahold of my pass code.

I got one of those the other day, too. Fortunately I've seen them before and know to go directly to Pay Pal's site and check my account instead of using the link in the email. I've had that through Amazon, too.
