There are many causes of dark circles under your eyes. They are cosmetically undesirable, but are generally medically harmless. Usually they dont indicate any serious medical problems. They can occur as a result of fatigue, a developing illness, or significant weight loss, allergies.T
The discolorations are the result of swollen blood vessels around your eyes. Dark circles under the eyes are also inherited (run in families).

my son has dark circles' our family Dr. said is from allergies. I can't remember what she called it but it's because he is allergic to molds and pollens. He even had stopped up ducts that caused extreme swelling and black eyes after they went down. Hs whole face looked terrible. Also, anemia or low iron can be something to loo into.

As you tack on the years, the skin covering your eyelids thins out, which may cause the blood vessels to become more apparent, giving your lower eyelids a darker appearance. It's also possible that thin eyelids can be inherited. Dark eyelids can also be caused from swelling in your lower eyelids. When you're lying down, gravity causes fluid to collect in your lower eyelids, which may create shadows below your eyes.
in most cases the condition is a result of aging or inheritance, and does not indicate illness or toxicity in the body.
two simple Ayurvedic remedies that can help eliminate the hollow look.
* Gently massage saffron or almond oil on the dark area before going to bed.
* Dip cotton pads in fig juice, rosewater, or cold milk. Lie down with your feet raised higher than your head, then place the wet pads on your closed eyes. Stay that way for 10 minutes.
To lighten dark circles under your eyes, wrap a grated raw potato in cheesecloth and apply to eyelids for 15-20 minutes.
Wipe off the residue and apply an eye cream.
