I do not understand the purpose of the the so-called betrayal by Judas. The Gospels clearly depict Jesus as a very popular person, preaching to thousands on a regular basis, healing nd raising from the dead, violently clearing the temple, and in constant confrontation with the scribes and Pharisees, (they were always trying to kill him by they were always trying to kill him by People from all over the region, according to the NT, seeked the assistance of Jesus, he was being watched, even his words were being scrutinised for blasphemy. Then we have a strange statement in Matthew 26:48-49, 'Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.' This statement gives me the impression that Jesus could not be identified and was not operating in the public. Does the betrayal story seem credible?

It is true the the Lord Jesus Christ was very popular, but He was very popular to people who attend to listen to His teachings; the officers who would implement the arrest did not know Him and so it was necessary that somebody should identify Him to them so that they would not arrest another as there were many in the group of the Lord Jesus Christ. The betrayal is true; it is clearly shown in the Holy Bible. And the Holy Bible is the Word of God and it is the truth.

God needed to sacrifice his own son to save mankind from his own wrath. So he needed a criminal diversion to turn attention away from his own psychopathic behaviour. Judas was his scapegoat.
