How to deal with THOUSANDS of email notifications?

Singapore

I am having a HUGE almost-unmanageable problem right now. I have thousands of email notifications and I have just spent hours clearing part of them. I am doing my very best but there are still hundreds more, and they are still coming in. I am not complaining - it's nice when my discussions get answered and when my friends start conversations. But how do you deal with such a mammoth task? I know some people don't read the responses to their discussions - they are like trolls - they just start a discussion and move on. As seen from my profile page, I promised to rate everyone and practically everyone will get a "+" automatically. It is something I promised and I am still living up to it. I also try to respond to their responses where appropriate. So seriously, how do you deal with this situation? And it doesn't help that myLot isn't exactly instantaneously fast. :P

well even i had that problem you are facing now. all those mails and notifications would get messed up into my personal mail making it difficult to bifurgate and delete them. so i just created a folder 'mylot' in my mail and set the options so that any mail or notification from mylot goes into the 'mylot' folder, making it easy to deal with. hope that helps

Yes, I can do what you and Asylum suggested but hmm, that would still be procrastination, no? I would still have to deal with them later. :P

hmm yes. in that case you need to turn off the notification. but then you will not be able to know if your friends started or comments on posts. thats again a problem. the best seems to be what i said.

Well I do not get that many. I had 600 when I came back online after being of for a week, but I just did as many as I could in a Day and then of course the new ones where coming through every Day, lol. It was a Battle but I got on with it, that is including responding to responses to my Discussions.

Well, I don't exactly have thousands of emails coming in but I have a couple of hundred both from myLot and other sites. I just read the first email that comes in and post a respones or delete the email if I can't respond. I then move on to the next email and so forth. I know it can be very time comsuming but it is the only way that I can manage and it also means that I will have at least read the topics which my friends have posted. I also read and rate any responses to my topics in the same way and I always manage to leave a little comment after them. I agree that some people keep posting and never bother to read or rate and I have now given up responding to their topics as I feel I am talking to myself.

I do try to strike a balance too. I would do a bit of posting for my friends' discussions, then rate and reply to responses to my own discussions, then switch around. I am so thankful that I am using gmail because it at least keeps maybe 50 responses to the same discussion as 1 email line - else I would really go mad! :P

This is a big problem for me too. I get hundreds of mails every day and getting a hard time handling them. What I did to control the situation a little is turn the notify off for those friends who start disussions in every 3-4 minutes. They just seturated the mail box and those discussions are also not of very good quality. So, it helpd me a little.

Wizard, you naughty boy, must you ask this question. The easiest solution is to cut off your email add (!_!)...alright, let me be a good girl here. If you don't agree with that, this is what I'm doing. I used three tabs. One for mylot and the other two for my email add. I have two email adds and I'm having difficulty trying to catch up too. Just take it one at a time. You might lose your wizard's touch.

You listen carefully, naughty boy...the maximum tabs I alloted for mylot is 2. Because before giving in my response, I will try to analyze first what the discussion is all about. You post discussion that is not about cooking, scrubbing toilet and the worst, dealing with kid's tantrums. I need to use my head and heart first to write down my response. You got it "wink."

Oh you silly bunny, what harm is there in me asking this question? :P Goodness, you kidding me or what? You are using 3 tabs ONLY? At any one time, I have at least 5-10 tabs open. One for my email to receive notifications, and the rest are all myLot ones! How else does one multi-task effectively? I would love to open more but because myLot is not fast enough, opening more might cause me to lose track of things. I still remember yesterday when my internet connection broke - and it chose the best time to break. I just finished 3 long responses and all 3 were lost as a result! I was so pissed off and I couldn't be bothered to retype everything again. So I just skipped the discussions altogether - when I was supposed to give a really nice reply!

I would be inclined to turn the email notification off if you are getting such a great volume, otherwise you have the problem of losing track of emails from personal contacts. I would also suggest that if you are using Outlook, then make a sub folder to store Mylot emails and redirect them there.

the best thing to do would be to disable notifications then you won't be recieving any.

My Lord, (ya I remember..hehe) how many friends do you have to get so many mail notifications?? lol Sometimes it takes to catch up. As you know I was away for the weekend and when I got back my inbox was flooded too. It took me the whole of y'day to clear everything. And it is possible only when you are full time into myLot otherwise it is difficult. If you are doing it in between work or after work, you get only a couple of hours and that's not sufficient. But there is no need to worry, take your time (lol) and soon those mails will diminish. Don't ever let mylotting become a chore though, we are here to enjoy ;o) I check responses on my discussions when I take a break from looking for other discussions. It's best to read and rate as they come along that way its' done before responses run into pages..lol!

Well its great that so many people respond to your discussions and so many of your friends start discussions. Your famous!! But seriously, why dont you deactivate the alert thing? Then you can always go into the section 'discussions my friends started' to respond to their discussions and you can go into your topic to read responses. Your work will still remain the same but atleast you wont have to do the added work of deleting emails from your inbox.

hey how oculd it be a problem for you friend? I mean I am almost dying for it....that someone responds to me finally....someone thinks of me too.... but I barely get around 25 messages of mylot notifications daily...which I feel is low when I see the total population to be around 85000 at the time.... isn't it? but anyways you are quite luck I must say!!!

Hello my friend, you *need* to get more friends on your list. Try making friend requests to one and all, I am sure more will accept than reject. VERY soon, you will be in a "worse" situation than me. LOL :P

I have turned of my notifications as i was having the same problems and i really don't think there is much need for them, as its easy to navigate around mylot and check your discussions and see if you have responses, also to check the discussions your friends have posted etc without having to receive an inbox full of emails

Well i think we simply can't make everyone happy by going every of their post yea ... i think the best will be making effort to go to their Discussion and rate them when you like the discussion

Replying to all the posts your can not only helps increase your own earnings, but theirs as well.. If the notification are a hassel, just turns them off or create a seperate email account. - DNatureofDTrain

LOL .... I have to say that i definately know the problem and that the best thing to do is to just erase them especially if they are from mylot because there really is no need to read every email as you can find everything through your mylot account and just respond here rather than trying to go through your emails seperately as it is impossible and takes so long. I have so many and i finally gave up and started to go through my emails delete all that are those that i do not need and then go through the remainder that i have to read!! Good luck and i know it is hard but at least it proves that you are popular here ... lol!!!

you are right...how do you deal with it....also, I've asked myLot how to temporarily turn off my notification when I'm away for a weekend, as an example. So far, no explanation even with the 'new and improved' myLot.

I am afraid you have to go to friends and temporarily turn it off yourself.. manually.

Send some of your friends my way. I'm new here and could use more comments to my discussions.

You don't need me to send any friends your way. The friends list of everyone is displayed at their profile page. If you want to add someone as friend, just send a request. :P
