Anyone have any ideas for learning Chinese? I have been living in China for a year and a half and have not learned as much as I think I should. I can have very simple conversations, but nothing that lasts more than a minute or two. I try to use it as often as possible, but I'm not in enough situations to use it (being an English teacher and writer). I have access to chinesepod.com and a few books that I've bought in the last year. Any other good resources that you've found helpful? Any methods that work well?

Try songs for one. Listen to popular Chinese songs and try to pick up and understand the lyrics. Songs are by far one of the best way to go about learning a new language.

Now I know why you ask about Chinese coffee.Learning a foreign language is really difficult. But I think if you love it and go on with it,you'll make great progress.
I think you should keep on communicating with others in Chinese.I like communicating with others. You can see so many problems and mistakes through what I said. But I go on saying.I'll make less mistakes next time.I think my English will be not so bad next time.
Chinese is easy to me but difficult to you.English is easy to you but difficult to me.Never mind! You'll be better next time.
