I am on a diet at the moment , most of you if you have Ben on a diet will know that it makes you think about food more , My 2 most favorite things are ice cream and bread , I just love the outside of he bread toasted , ( we call it the heel of the bread i Scotland ) I have gone to so many peoples houses and they throw the outside slice away , so!!!! why can't the bakers take the outside slices off , sell people the bread without it , and then pack all the outside slices for people like me and my Mum ( who love them . I know this was a pretty daft discussion BUT I was thinking it so!! why not writ about , xxx

Lol its not a daft Discussion at all you are right. I mean I like both but like you say a lot of People throw away the outside so really it would make sense to do both one loaf with the outside and another without and then sell the outside to people like yourself who likes them.

Nice topic to ponder weemam!!

LOL... I have a funny story for you. I used to own a cafe in NZ, and I had a English friend who loved the crusts too. He got me to try making what he called a "crusty" which was a crust, some canned spaghetti, and cheese on it, then bake it.
We made a few of them, put in them in the hot food cabinet, and didn't sell any of them. Needless to say, he enjoyed eating the leftovers that day!

Yeah.. they were rather nice... and they were a good way to use the crusts that would have been thrown out anyways...

I dont really care for the heels unless they are toasted. Do they still have "plain" bread in Scotland? They are "taller/higher" bread with the top and bottom with crust but the sides are white and soft. That used to be my favorite.

That sounds like a very good idea. Most people do not want to eat those pieces of bread that are on the ends especially if they are making a sandwich out of the bread. I really don't care to eat the end pieces either but I will make toast with it and eat that way. Alot of time I will throw that part of the bread in the garbage because by the time I make toast with it, it isn't good any longer. I think they should cut the end pieces of the bread a little bit thicker so sandwiches can be made out of it like the rest of the bread in the middle. The end pieces tend to be sliced quite thin.

Don't throw those end pieces away. I save mine in a plastic freezer bag to use in stuffing. They work great for small stuffing batches like when making stuffed mushrooms. Besides, our little feathered friends love them. Just let them dry out a bit and crumbly them out in the yard. The birds love it and need it especially during winter months.

I would be happy to give the the ends from my bread!! =) I usually just toss them outside for the birds! I think they should do that though, and then also sell loaves of bread without the ends!! That is what I would buy! I am sure both would be popular!!

its a good idea.......but they think that the outer slices are wastage of their resources so they add it with the normal slices to get some value of it.......

Like you, I too love the "outsides" of bread. In fact, I love the crust and crunchy of anything that is toasted. At home, I simply cut off the edges for myself and leave the centre portion for the kids. I have seen packets of "unwanted cake edges" for sales at a local bakery outside my house. I think to pack all the "outsides" for sales would not be feasible as it is unsightly and I do not think many enjoy the outsides as you and me. Maybe you can try suggesting it to your local bakery :P

Haha, I love the heelys! I know that most people don't but I'm one of those few who does. Hey, you can just buy whole wheat bread. That way you don't have to worry about the carbs. Also I learned that if you're on the no-carbs diet, never eat anything that's white, like bread, pasta and rice. Well maybe someday some baker will carry on with your suggestion.

Hi, there. I dropped in to tell you that you do not have to be feeling hungry while on a diet. Take lots of warm water. Whenever you feel the pangs of hunger, feel free to get your fill. Fruits will give you negative calories, in other words, fruits will dissolve the body fats. Apples, mangoes, grapes, guavas, pineapples, papayas, and oranges will just be great. The more you eat of these, the more your way to slimming is on the way. For the milk, take the non fat one. You can have as much as five glasses a day. As much as possible, remember to take your drinks from warm to hot. This enhances your metabolism. As I tell you all these, I am presuming that you are observing adequate exercising everyday.
As for the breads, I feel sorry that none of the bakers are doing that. Why not try suggesting it to your friendly neighbor baker? Actually, that is an excellent idea you have over there.

Actually you can have just the crust. There is a pan called the muffin top pan. It is really cool it is easier to just show you a picture and a place to order one. You can get one here for under $20 http://www.amazon.com/Chicago-Metallic-Gourmetware-Original-Muffin/dp/B0000CFN2C
I am sure this would work for bread as well as muffins.

I don't care too much for the heels of the bread. I use them sometimes for French toast, or put the outside of the heel toward the middle of a grilled cheese sandwich, lol!! I do leave them in the bag though until we have used the rest of the bread, as others have said, it doesn't dry out as quickly that way. When the loaf is gone, I throw the heels out in the backyard for the birds......and squirrels.......and raccoons, and whoever else is out there in the yard nibbling!
