Dear mylot friends. I wonder if you could help me. I would like to work as a gardener. I have the knowledge of plants as I am a trained landscape architect and love to take more practical care of gardens. However I do not have any idea how much I can charge. Would you be so kind and let me know what hourly rate you or your friend is paying for you gardener in the UK? Or maybe you are gardener yourself and would not mind to help me.
Much appreciated. Marzenna

It does not matter what country you are from for charging purposes because you have to charge what everyone else is charging at the beginning. I would start out by finding out what my competition charges. Call a few landscapers and ask them for their prices. In California USA the gardeners and landscapers charge by the job and not be the hour. After you develop a good reputation you can charge more than your competition if you have a following.

Thank you for the response. Your right that I should to ask the competition. But because I will their competition, I thought that I ask here instead. In the UK the landscaper also are charging for the job but I was interested in an ongoing maintenance and this is charged by the hour. Thank you for you time. I guess I have to follow your advice although I do not know if the competition will tell me their rates.
