If the deer are hungry they will eat most everything. Good fences are the best bet and keep an eye on those fences. A weak spot could appear rather easily. Try to keep the most resistant plants to the fence area and the tastier ones away from the fence. Good luck with this. My deer are not yet a problem. I would be tempted to eat them into submission. lol

Where you cannot put fence you could put tall shrubbery that could act as a barrier, wide is good when you don't have tall. I wish you all the luck!!

Thanks for the suggestion. We will be fencing in some of the property, but since we have over 3 acres that will not be possible.
I can't fence in the front. I have some brick planters on my front porch. I'll have to be very selective as to what I chose.
Thanks again.

We bought a Scarecrow to put in our garden last year. It is a motion activated sprinkler. It worked pretty well, but the batteries ran down quickly. You might be able to use it if it won't get a lot of use - ours seemed to be turning on all the time. Good luck!

Hibiscus syriacus, aka Rose of Sharon or Shrub Althea thrives by having the deer nibble on it branches. You can cover the tree with plastic netting. Chewing on arborvitae in winter may be prevented by wrapping the plants with burlap up to six feet high. spruce, buckeye, serviceberry, birch, dogwood, or ash trees around the outside of your yard. Deer don't really like eating boxwood, privet, barberry shrubs, and if you plant a row of them near your landscape beds, you just may prevent the deer from going any farther. I got most if this informatio from toledoblade.com I hope it helps.

Probably the only plants deer won't eat would be plastic ones. If they're hungry enough and don't have plants from their natural diet available they will make due with plants in your garden.

When I lived in California the deer never touched our geraniums (pelagoniums) or any of our cacti. Seems like they got most of the other stuff.

I am learning that there definetly are some plants the deer don't like. Such as Lilys, Daffidels, and others. I wrote them down, and now I can't find the list. But I have gotten alot of good ideas here. I am just going to forget about planting pansies in the front. I am going to be looking at some other kinds of plants for there. Hopefull this spring we will be putting up a fence. That will surely keep them out.
But on the other hand, we have alot of rabbits!!:)
