My first trip outside Germany was in 1980, when I travelled for about 2 month in Europe. I went first to the south of Portugal and spent a couple of weeks at the beach, and I just loved it. I met some real nice Portuguese hippies. Although I spoke little English at the time, and they even less, we had a great time.

Ola eurico. I have lived here in Oeiras for almost 30 years. After retiring at an early age I came to work but it was just after the 25th of April and it didn't work out. Returning to the States I became very bored. I had an invitation from a Portuguese family to come back and live with them and I have been here ever since although I moved out of the family's home and bought an apartment in Moinho das Antas here in Oeiras. See my avatar. I love it here. The people are great, the food is outstanding, the weather (although cold sometimes) is "liveable", the history and culture are amazing. At first it was a little difficult as I only spoke English and Spanish. However, now that I speak Portuguese I have no trouble fitting in. The only trouble I have is with Benefiquistas.....I am a Largata so we argue continually. Up until a couple of years ago I used to go to the Bingo at Estrela de Amadora and the other little one, Academica I think it is, just down the street. I did go there last month but have tried to stay away from Bingo. I always recommend that tourists come to Portugal first and then go to Spain. Met many brits and yanks who did just the opposite and most of them said that they wished they had spent more time in the Algarve. I have seen all the regions in Portugal except Tras os Montes which I do hope to get to one of these days. You should be proud of your heritage.
