are children being unfairly given medicines

Children today are much more hyper than in my youth. I can't understand it. I'm 57 yrs. old, in my youth there was nothing about A.D.D. and a host of other so called child illness, (Someone help me with these conditions). People are giving there children medicines to control them in class and at home not knowing what these pills will do to there children 20 years down the road. Somebody help me with this discussion. I don't think pills are the answer.
