Sorry if this is a repeat discussion but im wandering if there are any of you out there that suffered from the big earthquake last night in indonesia i think is where it was at. I woke up this morning and was still half asleep when i heard about it. Does anyone know why these earthquakes are so bad in that side of the world. Im in the US and we have earthquakes but none of them ever seem to be as bad as what i hear about in the other parts of the world. We have hurricanes and tornadoes, floods and minor earthquakes but why are they having all these tragedies in other parts of the world?

I haven't heard about this.
So it's new to me. Global warming is the key reason I'm sure, it's all starting to get a regular thing.
My guess would be these places are the places which are being affected by the changes. =)

Yes i was taking a break. I hit a rough spot and couldn't come up with any ideas to post or respond. I haven't heard any more about the quake either but when i got up this morning i heard about a plane crash over there in indonesia killing 40 something people. Im getting worried for these people. I dont know how much more they can take.

From what I understand from WAAAYYYYYY in the past, all of the continents were at one time, one huge mass of land. During time, the land split up & formed the continents that we have today.
During that moving around, the land we know as India split from Africa, & merged with Asia. India's merge with Asia was how the Himalaya mountains were formed. I would not be surprised if this situation also left a few fault lines in which can shift at any time, causing earthquakes.

I actually came to know this news when my spouse read a news on the internet this morning and even though we live in malaysia, still peoples in some parts of malaysia can feel this earthquake. Indonesia are very close to us here and even though we did not have the volcano link, still we can feel some of the earthquake which happen in Indonesia.
