It is a duty for all believers to send blessings on thr Holy Prophet Muhammad (PHUH). This has been clearly ordered in the Holy Quran as quoted by salam1.
Moreover in hadiths it is said that when a believer sends one blessing on the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Allah sends back 10 blessings on the reader, when the reader sends 10 blessings, Allah returns 100 blessings, when the believer sends 100 blessings, Allah returns 1000 blessings and the reader sends 1000 blessings, Allah makes sure that this person is kept on the right path and the latter shall not die until he has seen his place in paradise with his own eyes. Glory to Allah.
In another hadith, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PHUH) said that whoever fails to send blessings on him when the name of the Blessed Prophet (PBUH) is mentioned, that person has forgot the way leading to paradise.
Furthermore, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that the one who shall be nearest to him on the day of ressurection, shall be the one having sent the maximum blessings on the Holy Prophet (PHUH). Thus, the more we send, the better it is for ourselves.
