From my experiments, I think we get paid about 2 cents for responding to discussions. If your response is marked as the "best response", the payment seems to increase. I think we also get paid for starting discussions (and resolving them by marking the best response), but it's not clear how much. I think it depends on the quality of the discussion and the length. Do try to keep your discussion going by adding comments. You get paid for comments, and sometimes, when a discussion unexpectedly keeps going this way, it makes it to the front page, which of course helps attract responses.

you get paid for responding to discussions.. i doubt you are paid for starting discussions unless they make it to the top discussions page!
