Is the NHS value for money?

Whilst many other countries say we are lucky to have a NHS, do you think it is value for money, what was it that spent so far 54 billion?

It's 8 and a half years since I lived in england, but when I was there the NHS was going down hill very fast. I think it's a good system but whether it is value for money or not is a different thing. The good thing about the NHS is you can get medical attention at any given time. Although the waiting lists are pretty long for elective surgery. If it's an emergency though you can get the treatment you need immediately. I think more needs to be spent on the NHS, to get good quality nurses, as they are the backbone of the NHS. On the whole I think the english are pretty lucky to have the NHS system and probably take it for granted. Thats only my humble opinion though.
