Sin as black or white -- no gray

I was recently having a discussion with a Christian friend (I classify myself as spirtitual and nothing more) about religion and philosophy, and the discussion turned to homosexuality and sin. He told me that in his philosophy, sin is black or white, there is no gray, meaning that any sin, whether it be cheating on a test, murder, or anything in between, is all equally bad, because you are either sinning or you aren't.
It seemed weird to me that he felt that way, because I've never heard anyone explain their views to me like that. Does anyone else feel the same about sin?

hi there,
i think i would agree with your friend. i don't think that there is a small sin and there is a large sin. in fact both of them are sins no matter how small or large it is. this is one thing that most of us cannot accept. but i could not say that i am a perfect in anyways but i think this is what i believe in.

thank you. I think a lot of people tend to start classifying and categorizing things, and they rank sin so that in their own eyes they aren't as "bad" as someone else who commits a "worse" sin.
With that said, do you think it's at all possible for someone to live a sin-free life?

Your friend is right. The Bible says that sin separates us from God. Not a particular kind of sin. If we choose to live sinful lives, we will spend eternity in Hell, cut off from the Father, (God), but if we ask God to forgive our sin, He will forgive us and we will spend eternity in Heaven.
