Inherently Good or Evil?

I am wondering what people think about this issue. Are people inherently good or evil? Self preservation and egocentrism seem to prevail in many arenas of society. Violent acts that are unprovoked, premeditated, and defy all logical are increasingly mentioned in the media. Of course, the good deeds of others rarely get a mention. Perhaps it is only because one hears so much of the bad that happens in the world through the media that we find ourselves in a downward spiral of bigotry and hatred. What do you think?

One of the clever men in ancient believed human nature is evil and education can be a way to correct that born characteristics of any human. I think he is right on some aspects. Of course a new born baby is as innocent as a white paper. He should be neither evil nor good. But any child, no matter how young he is, must possess some kind of inborn selfishness. That why when the parent taking care of his siblings, a child would be jealous and tries to do anything to attract his parents' attention. He may attack the other baby too. Or he may grab the toys from his siblings hands violently. Well, jealousy and selfishness can seeds of many evil ideas in a human mind.

i think it is right up to an extent. but it is highly depend environment in which a individual has ben grown.media is also part of the environment so it also effect.

God created man good. In fact, when He finished creating, He saw everything was very good. However, as man grows and becomes older, he conceives of many devices and becomes bad. There are 3 things that man could hardly get away from: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life and God said that these are from the devil.
