Do you have a comfort food?

It's cold here and I'm alone and bored. I decided to make on of my favorite comfort foods. We always called it macaroni and tomatoes. It's just cooked macaroni noodles with canned tomatoes, either whole or diced. When it's done I put butter and salt and pepper on it. My grandmother used to make it all the time for us. She said it could cure anything, whether you were sick or sad all you had to do was eat it and you'd feel better.
Do any of you have a special comfort food? Let's share our stories.

My favorite comfort food is soup. I like all kinds of soup, hot or cold. Lately, I have been trying all kinds of recipe variations on gazpacho and tortilla soup.

I've never had tortilla soup. What's it like? I've had taco soup, maybe they're similar.

The tortilla soup sounds good. I'll have to try it sometime. Taco soup is beef based with similar vegetables and taco seasoning. It can also be topped with grated cheese.

Tortilla Soup is a Mexican soup. It is usually chicken broth-based, with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, etc., and a few chiles (one or a combination of a few varieties will do - red chile, ansio chile). It can have other vegetables, and often has avocadoes included. Because of the broth, it is somewhat light, although I have tried some cream-based versions. Depending on the amount of chiles added, it can be mild and tangy, to somewhat spicy. The soup is topped with tortilla strips or broken tortilla chips and sometimes cheese.

That's nice. I'd like to try that one to brighten me up. I can't think of something for now as my comfort food. Maybe I'll copy yours if you don't mind.

You're more than welcome to copy mine. I know my grandma would be happy about me sharing her special recipe.

My comfort food is definitely sweet and sour chicken and humbow. I'm not sure why, but when I'm feeling down or anything like that, I fry up some chicken and smother it in sweet and sour sauce and just chow down. Humbow I sadly can't make all that often, since it takes a day to prepare the dough and marinate the meat, but I always make a big batch so I have plenty. I'll freeze some, so I can defrost them later if I'm really having a craving.
It probably has to do with the fact that I lived off that stuff when I was in Seattle, sharing a house with my closest friends.

Mmmm...not sure what humbow is but the chicken sounds good. You must have some really good memories of your time in Seattle.

I pretty much like any and all homemade foods. Something about them being homemade just makes me feel so much better about everything. However, my major comfort food seems to be chocolate. If I'm having a bad day or anything, I'll just eat something chocolatey and I feel so much better.

I agree, homemade foods seem to be the best to beat the blues. Now you've got me craving home baked bread! I'm not too big on chocolate but I keep a stash of tootsie rolls for those moments.

It's not exactly what I call a comfort food but I always feel good after eating it.
Pizza.

My comfort food has to be either cake or ice cream or both... Mmmm... I absolutely love them. My husband and I will take the whole tub out of the freezer, take a spoon, and share it together. It's one of our bonding moments.

Oh, that's such a sweet thing to do together. I can just picture you two cuddled up on the couch sharing ice cream!
