making money as an online writer

Has anyone here managed to make a successful living as an online writer ? I researched it recently, and my searches were most intriguing to say the least. I have considered having a subscription blog - has anyone done this ? Whilst researching I found an ad that read, "get paid to write", and when I clicked through I realized it was a subscription site. However I joined it to see what might happen The site divides the monies raised between themselves and those people whose blogs you read. I threw myself into the task and got to the No 1 spot in one week (but how I did this is another story). Jaahda :-)
