I often fix up baskets and set them on the guest beds when company is going to spend the night. i just take a small basket and place a toothbrush, sample sized toothpaste, sample sized deordant, Various sample sized shampoos and conditioners and a few other things. It just makes them fell more welcome while taking care of their persoanal needs in case they forgot somehting. It illiminates the need of asking for personal items.
I was rescently at a friends home and she had just finished makeing this little gift set to leave on her guest bed if the family had a baby or small child. It would also make a great baby shower gift or a nice gift to be used at homeless shelters or homes that cater to abused woman and children.
Here are the directions adn I am going to try to add a pictue. I have never added pictures before so forgive me if I dont get it right.
It is made out of a washcloth
First sew a piece of ribbon to the front side of a wash cloth. Use the woven band on the washcloth fro a guide. Stitch only the center four inches and leave the tails loose.
Next turn the wash cloth ribbon side down. Fold the bottom half of hte cloth up to the woven band. Stitch both sides of the folded area of the wash cloth. Stitch hte cloth in two more places to create pocket in the cloth.
Third fill the pokets with bath items such as shampoo, comb or brush and baby lotion.
Fold the wash cloth in thirds at each of the stitch lines. Tie the ribbon at the front of the cloth. Add a baby toy to the bow. It is now wrapped and ready to give as a gift.

Another interesting baby shower gift that I have seen before (which is also very practical and I LOVE PRACTICAL GIFTS) ... is a "diaper cake".
Buy or make 2 or 3 recieving blankets and fold them in half (the long way). Place a stack of diapers on top and roll in the blanket. Use cloth diaper pins to hold in place. Make second layer the same way either using less diapers in the stack or diapers of a smaller size. Roll in blanket and pin together. Place second layer on top of the first and pin a few diapers from each stack together. Repeat for third layer using less diapers again.
To dress it up small toys (rattles, stuffed animal etc.) can be pinned where blanket ends meet.
I also think it's a wonderful idea about leaving personal items for a guest!

I usually give my guests the ensuite bedroom and I fill the ensuite with all sorts of body lotian, shampoos and conditioners and even a hairdryer. I also buy lots of cheap bedroom slippers and I leave a pair of those in the bedroom along with some bathrobes that I keep specially for guests. I love your idea for a baby shower gift and if any babies come along in the near future I am going to try to make it. I am amazed at all the wonderful ideas and handy tips that you come up with. You are a mind of information and thanks for sharing it with us.

This is a cute idea. It is also a great compact item for camping. We spend a lot of time camping with our two young kids. It is hard to pack up everyting you need to go out and survive off what you can fit in a bag. It is compact and makes things easy to find. I think I will break out my sewing machinge and make some up for the families we go camping with.
For a service project once I mad kits like this up in a ziplock bag for the homeless shelter. These are so much better for that. I would think it would make them feel like they were getting a gift rather thatn a handout.
Great ideas villageanne. I always love to read your posts.

What a great idea....so cute and yet useful. This would be a cute thing for the parents to use to carry needed baby items when they travel with the baby too! I wonder if this could be switched up a bit and used for birthday gifts or other types of gifts...what about figuring a way to do this with a golf towel...and addding a sleeve of golf balls, and some tees for a golfer! What about fishing lures? OH...what a cute gift for a teenage girl..insert some deoderant, body wash etc. Thanks for yet another great idea!

You are a Goddess! I have a baby shower to attend next weekend and want to give something more than the usual knitted sweater that I always make. This is so cute! Looks like it will whip up fast. I prefer to do projects that can be done quickly. Thank you!

I absolutely LOVE this idea!
I have a couple of friends that are expecting too, so I could actually make this and add different things to the pockets for them as a gift at a baby shower.
It's inexpensive, it's practical, it looks cute, and it's unusual.
Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

That was so neat. I had never heard of anything like that. It could even be used to pack to go on a trip or anything. They even look like they would wash well too. Thank You so much for sharing your idea.
