HoHo... i have always wanted to memorize the Bible, but no matter how hard i try, i always have trouble memorizing it.
So, i guess... it is not a must to memorize it. The most important thing is to get the essence of the Bible itself.
Anyway, we can summarize the whole Bible in just one sentence. The love of Jesus Christ saved us all. ^o^
Um... i only remember one sentence from the Bible and i really like it. Matthew 7 : 7. "Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will b e opened to you."

You may try asking for good memory and persistence. Singing also helps. May we let the word of Christ dwell in us richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in our hearts to God (Col. 3:16).

Yes when I was a child we had to memorize many verses, which was great! Once you memorize them they stick with you for life. John 3:16 is the first we learned. Also when I went to school we had to recite a new verse every day and this helped too. I would love to memorize a lot of the Bible, but have never eally tried.

Memorization for the sake of memorization isn't that useful. I mean, I guess it could be if you meditated on what you were memorizing, but I agree with another person who said that memorization will come naturally from studying if you put in enough time. That, to me, is a better way to go about it.

I think, that if you read it thoroughly and keep thinking it through to understand it, the verses will automatically be imprinted on your mind. You wouldn't really need to memorize it since you will just recall what you need.
In fact, I would go as far as to say that this is one good way to use the bible.

I don't believe in memorizing particular verses because sometimes that will throw a non-believer off the edge in a discussion since sometimes they then believe in order to become a Christian they need to memorize it.
Normally I prefer to remember where in the bible it is and then use www.biblegateway.com in order to find a particular verse if someone is asking for it.

I have had a very difficult time memorizing but I have never been good at memorizing anything. I think as others have said it's most important you read and understand. I keep a bible with me at all times so if I need God's word it's right there with me. I keep one in my purse, one in my van, and several around the house.

I do memorize verses in the Bible that made such big impact in my life. Ex. in Matthew 6:33- "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well." -- serving and prioritizing God before other things will brought us to a contented state of life.
