If we have about 15 discussion which we have started and about 140 disscusions in all, does it have any effect on the money earned??

It only makes a difference to your earnings if you get responses. It's the responses to your discussions that bring you the remuneration, not how many you make.
You also need to respond to a few discussions from other people. That will earn money and increase your points at the same time, which discussions doesn't.
