How do you keep squirels out of your garden?

I wanted to put a garden in this year, but I have an enormous oak tree in the back yard and lots of squirels. I was really looking forward to growing tomatoes this year but I'm afraid the squirels will tear up everything. Does anyone know how to keep squirels out of your garden?

I have a lot of squirrels that come to my garden, and a coupple of them are quite tame now and will come into the kitchen for peanuts. However, when I reorganised my garden I put pieces of chicken wire over the pots and tubs to keep them out and it also meant I could put mulch over it to, so as to keep the plants moist. Rather than stopping the squirrels, try using the chicken wire to protect the plants.

What about tall plants like tomatoes? At my old house I had 6 foot tall tomatoe plants. I'm not sure how to build something that the neighbors wouldn't complain about or might be an eye sore. Maybe I just need to plant something else. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind.
