Do you know anyone who thinks that they can sing but they can't?

I mean really, really can't? There's this girl that I know who would often talk about how she sang the lead in choir, how she sang at her wedding and so on. Well, we went to karoke recently and, of course, everyone wanted to hear her sing. She was very composed and looked good up there but when she opened her mouth - it was SOOO bad! Off-key doesn't begin to describe it. My friends and I just sorta looked around the table at each other in shock. What were we gonna say?! We all smiled and clapped but then tried to quickly change the subject but she kept asking how she did. Everyone except for me told her how good she was. I just couldn't do it. I didn't have the nerve to say "Hey, you stink" but I didn't want to lie about it,either. Maybe she could sing back in highschool and maybe it just changed along the way but maybe someone should tell her. I felt so phony just smiling and nodding my head. She's a sweet person, I would never say anything to hurt her feelings but she is supposed to sing at a friend's church soon - shouldn't someone say something? What would you do?

If there just singing around the house or in the shower. Well let it go. Karioke is no big deal if they suck. Church may be o.k. also. These are good God fearing folks no one will hurt her feelings. Here is what I would do. The next time she sings tape it. Then tell her I taped your singing and play it for her. She probably hasn't heard herself on tape in a long time. She may see that she is not so good. Keep in mind she may not know. For example I was a pretty good singer 10 to 12 years ago. Since then I have damaged my body and smoke way too much. I know I sound like crap now. She just may be having a hard time coming to terms with it. Be cautious it might be the only talent she THINKS she has.

Haha! Great idea. I think they sell cd's of your performance at some karoake clubs, next time I'll buy her one! And I'm sure you don't "sound like crap". It's just that some of us sound better in the shower than we do on the stage. Personally, I love to sing but my voice frightens small children and makes grown men cry!

I'm not sure, I mean maybe if she gets in front of a professional singer that way she will learn that she is off key.Or maybe tell her she should get a teacher to help her to sing in tune.
