How do you ski?

Is it easy to learn how to ski? My 6 year old daughter wants to go skiing. I do not know how to ski so I can not teach her. Is this easy for a child to learn? When is a good age for them to start? What should we know before considering this? What kind of equipment will she need? I have been told this is an expensive sport? As I see the pro's and con's I will consider this for her. I am sure there are alot of young children who ski. I wonder if they get the concept quickly even more so than an adult!

I think they approach it a lot more enthusiastically than adults do ... we tend to be a lot more afraid of getting hurt or looking stupid than kids do. I think that if it's something she wants to try, and you can afford it, it would certainly be something worth looking into.
I didn't know a thing about hockey when my youngest decided that she wanted to play ... never thought I'd be a hockey mom, but I did it, and it was so worth it for her.

Thanks for that encouragement! You are right. They do not care who sees them fall or wipe out. They will just get up and keep going. We would look around and make sure no one saw us, lol. I do not know about it but we are going to let her try. Thanks

Learning to ski is much easier for a child than an adult. I worked on the National Ski Patrol for years and taught many children how to ski. There are a few basic skills that your daughter will need to ski down the hill and be in control of her direction and speed. It is well worth the money to purchase a lesson for her to learn these basic techniques. Once she has these down, she will really be able to have fun! Skiing is somewhat expensive because you will either need to purchase equipment or rent it each time. You will also either need to purchase a lift ticket each time or have a season pass. Overall, if you ski frequently it is worthwhile to own your own equipment and have a season pass. Then it is not too spendy!
