If you heard your neighbours fighting, violently, would you call the police?

Would you call the cops, or just turn up your TV and ignore it? i just read an article attached to another post, and the woman used her baby as a weapon to stop her boyfriend from beating her. Sad that it went that far without anyone else getting involved. those fights ar neverquiet, and if someone had called thacops before it went that far, things may have turned out better.

As a matter of fact I did call the police once. It was late around 2 am. I was sleeping and I heard a woman screaming from the apartment across from mine. I could hear her say something about blood. I had an exam the next day, so needless to say I was a little cranky.
Anyways, i called 911 and reported it. The cops showed up. I went out side just in time to see the woman run out of the apartment, her shirt ripped open. The boyfriend, who was beating her, had locked him self in the bathroom. After the police took my statement, I went to bed.
The next day I ran into her and she thanked me telling me she was going to leave him. Great, I said, and moved on. The next thing I know she tells me she has decided to give him a second chance. Oh, great, I thought, here comes another late night. Then...it gets better...a few days later she asks if she can stay with me. Oh no, I said. I called 911 because it was the right thing to do. i do not need to go any further. To end the story, the apartment complex evicted the couple due to back rent and I never saw them again.
So yes, i would call the police.

hey there, that's very sad, if i lived by them i would call the police quickly if i heard anyone hitting each other because i know how it fels, my partner hits me all the time and none of my neighbours ever call the police probably because they don't want to get involved, but i certainly wouldn't use my baby as a sheild or a weapon to prevent him from hitting me! i wouldn't want her to get hurt too! i hope that baby's okay and the mother of course!

i would ignore it if they are just yelling at each other but if i hear somebody's being hurt or abused already,i'll ask someone from our house to call the police and i'll ask some big fellow to come with me jump over their place to try to stop anything which might hurt someone

I would really hesitate to call the police unless I thought I copuld do it anonymuosly. Once it has spilled out of the house or you are asked for help that's another matter, but I would probably try to help in other ways.
