Can you Write in the Dark?

Singapore
March 7, 2007 11:53am CST
I do know that writing with a pen or pencil has already become something close to a feat in today's highly computerized world. But let's assume that you haven't forgotten that skill yet, alright? :P So, can you write in the dark? Have you managed this double feat before? I got inspired in the middle of last night. Since I didn't want to forget my ideas when I wake up, I got up, grabbed a piece of paper, and scribbled my ideas - which are currently being implemented as discussions. Here, I've scanned in what I put together that day (see image below). Would you give me an A+ for legibility?

Only as seeing you are the "lordwarwizard" and are 'immortal' I'd give you an A++. Very good work sir. I made out "how many days can you go without..... also something about respond." Then it's all lordwarwizard scratching. HAHAHAHAHA HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!

Ahhhh but the real question here should be.... "can you type in the dark?"

Thank you Sir webeishere, I am so very touched! ;-) As for your second question, yes I can. I don't look at my keyboard while I am typing (I stare at the screen) so why would day or night make a difference? ^^ PS.: You did get knighted by some wizened hag of a Queen right? :P

I am sure this wizard can :P I have done it many times when I do not want to wake everybody up with the lights on. I am not suggesting you try it as the eyes get very tired after seeing the screen for a while.

I don't think I could either write or type in the dark. I was able to read a little of what you wrote. If I had to give you a plus or a minus for your handwriting I would give you a minus...lol. However, seeing as you wrote it in the dark I will give you an A+ and I will also give you a plus for the topic.

I was about to shut down my computer when someone reported a lizard...ahem...wizard notifying me to response to his newest project. Your mind must be working overnight. I wonder where you're getting your energy. Anyway, back to your discussion. No, wizzzy, I don't write in the dark EVER. But I read stories about wizard. Because of that, I had to buy an eyeglass as thick as my grandmother's wearing before. My instinct told me that you're wearing one too. Sorry...I left my eyeglass somewhere...can't find it. Naaahhh...I'll check those ugly thing you pasted here tomorrow. Looks like the writing of a 3 years old boy. Why...my daughter writes better than you. "smile"

Here's a free analysis course, if you are interested... http://www.handwritinginsights.com/index.html It looks pretty thorough to me! :)

I don't really know if my handwriting is usually like that... because I seldom pick up the pen nowadays too! Maybe someone can run a handwriting analysis for me... :P

Thanks for the link.. but I am too lazy to do it myself. Not only that, I wouldn't be able to trust my own analysis since I am not an "expert". :P

It's more legible than I expected. I am an expert at writing in the dark **ahem**. I used to do it so often when I was tossing in bed and too reluctant to get out of bed to switch on the lights. And what I wrote? Major feat : Speech outline for presentations; Secondary : testing criterias. Others : Complaint letter.

Not only do I write in the dark, I usually prefer it as it helps my concentration and creativity... I write in Runic Script so it helps with the legiblitity issue... Most songs and recipes come to me in the dark of night, so as a born Nocturnal, I'm totally at home with working without light or with a candle's glow...

You´ve got the A+ for legibility assured... To come to your question, yes I can write in the dark. I have a "to do" list for each day (how disciplined, hey). Sometimes I´ve already turned the lights off when I realize that I forgot something. I´ve always got pen and paper on my bedsite table to write down my dreams if I wake up at night. Anyway, I write down whatever I´ve forgotten without turning the lights on and I´m always surprised to see that it looks "nearly" as if I´d written it whilst looking at it.

So do you implement what's on your to-do list in the end? :P

I think you had done quite well (writing in the dark) But if you can upload a paper with writting in the light, then we can compare clearly :) I have never tried that, you had inspired me a new thing to try out! :)

Hiya, interesting topic you started here! I think you were asking how many days we could go without washing? Or were you? As for writing in the dark being a double feat, you'd be right, my writing even in the light is pretty dire LOL. I could easily type in the dark as I did a touch typing course over 20 years ago and type without looking at the keyboard anyway. I guess I'd have to master writing in the light again before I attempt writing in the dark, thanks for making me think about it though. I'm gonna go try writing in the dark later :)

Yes, you got it. "Washing" was the word and that was one of the topics I implemented already. You have fun writing in the dark... just don't spill the ink over the bedsheets! :P

Not bad at all, buddy... as I have commented on your photo, your handwriting there looks like most of the doctors' prescription.. :P but don't feel too bad, they can still be read... I figured out you were writing about "how long can you go without posting?", another one was like "thank for marking a best response", then... oopppssss sorry, I forgot what more you have there... but to put it simply, your handwriting isn't as bad as my doctor's... :P

here's another apologies for being such a forgetful baby.. :P I realized I haven't answered your questions... well, yeah for both... yeah am giving you an A+ for your handwriting and also for this post..and yeah I can manage to write in the dark. I remember when I was yet in college, I had a couple of experiences where I need to force myself to understand what I have written after taking down some important notes during a film showing on one of my major subjects. It's pretty hard to remember all the details of the movie we were watching so I convinced myself I can make some legible notes taken in the dark..and am pretty satisfied with my handwriting though... they helped me not to get a failing mark on that subject... :P

Well, good for you then! I remember my scribbling when I was copying notes during the lectures while sleeping. (Yes, you can look pretend to look awake and copying notes while sleeping in reality - I've mastered that trick already). To make matters worse, I sometimes use a faint green ink... the result is not hard to guess. I can't read my notes half the time. :P

Oh boy, comparing me to doctors and I am not supposed to feel bad? *sniff* Not "posting", it's "washing" - a discussion I've already implemented - see http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/852266.aspx .

Hi... I don't think I could write in the dark but sometimes I can jog down a few words without looking at the paper, but I would have to check that I wasn't writing over what I had already written. :0)

I don't think if I could read my writing when I'm going to write in the dark, LOL :-) That would be so hard for me if there's no light at all when at the same time you are writing. So, definitely my answer would be...I can't write in the dark.

i can write a lot better than that, infact why do you need light to write ? What you are planning to write is already in your mind. its just that you may not be able to write in straight lines . the lines just go randon else the words are understandable

Hmm.. good point there. Isn't it weird? Why do we need light to write when quite a few of us don't need light to type? We need to practise our "touch-writing" I guess! :P

The majority of it is fairly legible. How many days can you go without (working, walking or waking)? Unorthodox reason for marking a best response Can you write in the (?) dark? Obviously I cannot decipher every word, but since you wrote it then the clearer words will rpompt you to read it correctly. I am confident that I could write in the dark, although I have not tried it.

Well I have not forgotten this skill of writing with pen or pencil. I still write and everyday I take results of my experiments and write.I do can write in the dark but cannot do in the same line. it starts from one place and goes from lower to higher side of page making the slope of hill.I cannot read anything from the scan. You tried to do so so I can give A at least.

I could make out the odd word but not the full sentences LOL. I am terrible at writing in the dark, Heck I have enough problems writing during the day, and your writing looks like something a doctor would write when issuing a prescription LOL. Kudos to you for trying though!

I haven't tried writing in the dark. And I admire your handwriting, they aren't bad at all though you scribbled that in the dark. Thanks for posting this one here, I guess I better try doing this one tonight and see for myself if I can make legible writings.
