Hi
I have a job opportunity in Oulu, Finland. I must admit I know very little of Finland not to mention Oulu. Is by any chance anyone here from that city or at least someone who visited it at one time or another? I'm interested in virtually anything about it, just to know what to expect. Thanks a lot in advance :)

Visit"www.ouka.fi" The information pages of the town of Oulu. Even in english. The town has about 120.000 peolpes. University, Nokia. Small centre,re-built in 1960-1990´s. Some older houses left. A lot of students, also foreign. Nightlife ok. Resturants plenty. Finns are timid and silently agressive/temperamentfull. Large sub-urbs. Bicycle friendly, lots of routes/shortcuts för bicykces. The sea, Nallikari beach in summer. Allmost all younger finns speak english, or at least they understand it. Good transportations by air (large airport in Oulunsalo 20 km), many trains to north (lapland) and south (southern finland and helsinki). It takes 7-9 hours by train from Helsinki to Oulu. Cold winters, temperate and not so rainy summer (sunny). Temp. in July ca. +20...25 celcius. In January the same in minus. Windy because the city lies near the sea. You cant´t see the sea from the city, but the outlet of Oulu river. In mid winter day light comes at 11 am and dark at 2pm. In summer it is light all 24 hours. The mosquitos are NOT carrying any sicknes! Time for mosquitos is from the end of june to end od of August. Mosquitos are plentifull in the forests just outside the town.
