Do you find a quick "best response" discouraging?

This morning I went into a topic that had started 3 minutes before. It had one response 1 minute before and the original poster had already marked this the best response. I'm here to try to be helpful, not after best responses, but in this case (and I have seen other similar cases) it is almost like they have already decided what the perfect response is so there doesn't seem to be any point responding to it.

I agree completely. It would be much better if more people had the opportunity to respond. Perhaps mylot could impose a limit (say, 24 hours), before a best response could be chosen. That would make it a lot more meaningful and allow many more to have a chance for best response.

I have to agree with you and I am seeing this happen alot on here lately..I think that is just one friend helping another out by giving them best response which is sad cause it really does hurt the rest of us that try to give helpful responses..If I see that it is already posted best response when it is only couple minutes into it I will not bother to respond to it cause this is telling me that they are not interested in what I have to say and are just helping there friend out.

I've seen that happen too and my guess is that it is usually one friend trying to help out another. Is it right, not necessarily unless the friend happened to actually give a decent, on topic, response that resonates with the poster. But to make that choice when the question is only 3 minutes old seems very premature since you have no way of knowing what other responses you'll have before the day is over and one of those may be much more deserving of the honor.
