Do you put your feet up on other people's coffee tables?

When you visit a friend or family member or whomever at their home, how likely are you to prop your feet up on their coffee table? If you do, do you do it with your shoes off or on?
What do yo think if a visitor does it at your own home?
My hubby and I have gotten into a few debates about this. He says it's okay with shoes off. I tend to think it shows disrespect for the person's furniture. However, I suppose if I saw the homeowner doing it, I MAY - but I'd still feel uncomfortable.
What are your thoughts?

I try not to, but sometimes you just can't help yourself. I don't mind if someone does it at my house but I do prefer them to do it with their shoes off.

I agree with you.. I wouldn't put my feet up on other people's coffe table. Maybe your husband is okay about it because he does it and is just ashamed to admit that his wrong. It's very disrespectful of you if you do that.. In thr first place, it's a table!

I think it is very bad manners to put your feet on someone's coffee table when visiting, with or without shoes. It shows disrespect. You can create a relaxed atmosphere without doing this, even if the host does it. I put my feet on my own coffee table but never when someone is visiting. I have friends from different cultures and my European friends would be horrified. I live in Canada and honestly I have never visited anywhere here where someone put their feet on the coffee table. My son and daughter in law often lie down on a sofa, or put their feet on my ottoman when visiting, but never when other company is present.

Well, I'm with you Andi, and personally I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it in anyone else's home. The only exception would probably be my Dad's house, because I was bought up there, and I know he doesn't mind. But other than that - I think it is a bit rude, and they may be unhappy about it but not want to say anything, which could cause awkwardness.

i dont feel comfortable putting my feet on people's furniture unless its a very close friend or family member, like my mom. if i was to put my feet on the coffee table i would not have my shoes on, nor would i do it if the furniture was very nice and/or new looking. its a very touchy thing because you dont want to piss people off my disrespecting their things. i say stick to ottomans or recliners and if they dont have them, keep your feet on the floor!!

Oh Oh! Here comes the bad side of Grandpa Bob. HAHAHA. I have that very bad habit of doing this. I've had my feet shoved from the table, brushed away & even hit with a cane. LOL Yet I'm a stickler in my house constantly telling my grown children it's a coffee table not an ottoman. LOL.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

Never! That is so rude! Feet do not belong on a coffee table or other table; unless the person's foot is injured and someone else needs to bandage it or remove a splinter or something. Illness and injuries are the only exception.

I do it in my own home but would never ever do in in anybody else's home. I don't really mind if people do it on my coffee table providing they are not wearing dirty boots or something. What I do mind is when someone puts adrink down and it leaves a ring on the wood. I keep a little stack of those pimpernel coasters in a drawer in an end table and give one with every drink and I expect people to use them.

I would never put my feet on someones else's coffee table. If they put their feet on my table I would tell them ONE time to get them off and never do it again and if they did, I would get up open the door and tell them "visiting hours are over - now scram and don't come back!"

I think feet do not belong on tables, with or without shoes. Tables are for putting food and drinks on - I do not feel like having someones foot-germs in my food. I find it very disgusting and rude. I'd say it makes my top five list of things to do if you do not want to be a welcome guest in my home.

Unless I knew the person and their home like family then definitely not, and probably not even then. It's so rude! I agree with you.

Never. I feel that it is very rude. I don't even put my feet on my coffee table. The thought of a persons shoes or feet on my table makes me sick. Sure, I can clean it, but thats not the point. Whenever I see people do that in my home, I tell them to get the feet off the table.
Now I have gone into other peoples homes where they do that to their tables. I think its sick, but if they weant to do that in their own home, then that is their right.

No, I don't do it unless it is a very good friend's home and she tells me to go ahead and put my feet up, lol. Otherwise, I won't do it because it doesn't seem right to me. Also, it would not be nice if the owner is the kind that doesn't like people to do it. So, I guess out of respect and consideration I won't and don't, even without shoes.
