My 5th grader wants to do a science project for the school science fair - I am looking for some good ideas or suggestions to help him choose which one he/we could do together.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Any success stories? Any projects to totally avoid??? Thanks for your help!

Thank you so much! We have til the end of this month to pick a project and this will really help us out. Have you used this site to pick a project?

I must say I've already started browsing and it is just loaded with ideas and great descriptions, optional advice, etc.
Great site!

Well I know I did one on the effects of alchohol on a plant. I took two identical plants. One I watered every day the other I gave a shot of vodka. The one that got the vodka grew better, bigger and over all healthier. That is until I took the vodka away and replaced it with water. Then it didn't do so well. Might be something off that you can use. I never really did much with the science projects.
I know one girl at my niece's school around 5th grade did a project of making swiffer slippers. So that you could dust the floor with your feet. Yes she won.
Hope those help.

I'm not sure which 5 grade is compared to united kingdom schools. Athough if I'm correct they're eleven right? which means over here it's the first year in senior school.
We didn't do many projects. (in our first year)
I can remember a few though.
One was learning to make a 2ltr coke bottle shoot up like a rocket. (from soda and compression) another was learning about the weights and methods used to build suspension bridges and we had to build our own out of card board and bog roll (cardboard) to allow a small weight to balance.
I've just forgotten the third, However I'm not to sure if these will help or give you any ideas.
Goodluck shadygrove!

I think no matter what you choose for your young child. The first thing your might consider is whether he or she likes it or not.As a Chinese student ,I had burden in my study since I'm young .I regretted that I can't develop my interest on what I like.Maybe you're a mother or father ,I suggest you give more space to your child and help him to do what he or she really interest in .
