As for me, I'd prefer reading a manga with a not-so-good artwork but has an unique idea and story. How bout u?

I look at artwork first, I will choose manga with good artwork. If the story is good n many people recomended that manga, I will read that manga.... ^_^

Yeah, I think that if the storyline is good, the artwork is not very important at all. But if the artwork is very very very bad... I think I can't read it even the storyline is the best in the world. Both of them are important facts, but if one is very good, the other can be not good at all.

I definitely am more willing to forgive bad artwork if the storyline is good. However, since the cover art and general art style is what I see first, I'm definitely drawn to stories with nice art from the get go, unless I get a really good recommendation. I tend to prefer the shounen art style over shoujo (too many hearts and flowers everywhere), but as far as the stories themselves go, I'll try anything once. Usually if the art is really awful or the story doesn't engage me, I give up after a few chapters and move on to something new. Most of the manga series I've read and enjoyed in the past have had both good plots (in my opinion) as well as pretty art. The one exception would be Whistle!, maybe? But I got over the iffy art quality after the first volume because the story was just so sweet. :D
