How to get your debt back smartly?

I am having a severe debt problem these days. I gave one of my friend some money a year ago. Arrangement was that he will pay back in 15 equal installments on monthly basis. But after paying 4-5 installments now its getting hard to take the installment from him in time. He is always having financial problems. What should i do?

I have no idea on how to get back money that is owed to you.I have made it a practise to lend money to friends/family ONLY if I can afford NOT to get it back just in case.That way,I do not have to depend on that money making its way back to me.I do not/will not allow money to interfere in a relationship.
It works for me anyways.

I also not prefer money to interfere in a relationship. But i saw him in real trouble and i only try to help him out. But now i have right at least to take my money back as per our arrangements. But he is again in problems. Sometimes i think he is in problems due to his own carelessness.

Many times it is thru our own carelessness that we find ourselves asking to borrow money.I live on a very limited budget but try to put aside a little every month in case of emergencies.It IS difficult ,but with a few sacrifices,I can do it.
I do hope you are able to get the money owed to you and that he bites the bullet and make additional sacrifices so he can repay your kindness plus realize he has problems handling money.
