Drugs for ADD/ADHD

As an educator, I often worry about all the drugs my students are on for their ADD/ADHD issues. I don't doubt the issues these students have, but I am not convinced that all of them need drugs. My concern is years down the road, we discover the effects are terrible and these kids have been on them for years. If I can work with a kid in the classroom and the family is supportive, I am all for cutting back on a student's drugs if possible. Any other thoughts on this topic?
