I was just wondering does anyone elses child take concerta and if they do what if any side effects does your child get from taking it, My son will literally fall asleep in the shower shortly after taking it so i have had to start getting him 2 hours early just so he can take it and sleep it off before going to school.

My son used to be on concerta. It did a great job for him for about a year. He developed some ticks from it. He bit the skin off his fingers and pulled his hair out. He also had a hard time falling asleep at night. They added clonidine for help with sleep and zoloft for the others. You have to be very careful with meds for this because they do seem to over medicate them. My son would develop a problem they would just up his dose on one or more pills or add another. He was nothing but a zombie. I took him off all his meds for 1 month and let his body come down off all of it. Then we put him on stratera and he has done great. My son is ADHD by the way. I would suggest you tell the doctor and he should either change his meds or lower the dose. I would say tho if he is falling asleep its not the med for him. Good luck and keep me posted.

Do you mind me asking, Why does your child take concerta? Does he have ADD? I have a friend that is in my Adult ADD support group. She was put on Concerta and the same thing was happening to her. She said that it made her feel nerves and sleeply at the same time. My son has ADHD and he was put on Ritlin and it made him angry. So they put him on adarol. Adarol worked great for him. I am also on Adarol. To me no matter what is wrong with your son, You might have to cut the concerta dosage. The doctor always perscribed my son to strong a medication. It would turn him into a zombie. All I wanted was for him to be able to focus but still be himself. I never give him more then what the doctor perscribed but I would cut it until he got the right dose. You know your child better then anyone so you need to let the doctor know what is going on. Good luck
