Because at the time Jesus came, the old testimony is history. That's why Jesus said "I come not for bring the peace, but I bring the sword". It means that His teaching is in quite different way with the old testament which based on Taurat book. in the book they taught "a teeth for a teeth, an eye for an eye" while Jesus taught LOVE.

Jesus' teaching was not different from that of the Old Testament: it fulfilled all the teaching of God in the Old Testament. Jesus often used the Old Testament in His teaching. His reference to "bringing a sword" is taken out of context. He was talking about personal relationships.

While I am not an expert or anything from what I read/understood I can tell you that when Jesus came he kinda said "off with the old, on with the new". The most notable moment when this is noticeable is during the sermon on the mountain when He often expresses Himself in terms of "you have been told [...] but I tell you [...]" (for example "you have been told an eye for an eye but now I tell you love thy neighbor as yourself"

Jesus' teaching did not contradict the teaching of the Old Testament, but the ADDED teaching of the Pharisees. Jesus was putting the reasons behind the Old Testament teaching. The New Testament tells us that Jesus FULFILLED the Law. He never contradicted it, but fulfilled it completely.

yes it's why they are called CHRISTians, because they are followers of Christ, Jesus of course says he was born before Abraham (an Old Testament character)
and that he has all power and authority, thus he has made himself central to the Bible (and to the universe for that matter!!), and this is why christians focus on Jesus.

You said that you're a roman catholic right? and in roman catholic, who's your saviour? that is Jesus right?
And obviously christian in its own word, is pertaining to Jesus christ....
Even in old testament, there is a prophecy, that the son of God will exist...that he will be the saviour of all mankind...god appointed him...nobody else..

As far as I know the Bible consists of two testaments-the old and the new. The old testament will give you a glimpse of the "beginnings". In other words, it contains significant historical events about the people's experience of God until the prophesy about the coming of the Savior, the Messiah. The new testament is a book that contains the life and teachings of Jesus. In other words, I can say that the new testament is the fulfillment of the old testament. Maybe the reason why many christian churches focus on Jesus' life or the new testament is because it relates to our day to day life experiences. Example, the teaching of Jesus about loving others as we love ourselves. It personally speaks to me that whatever I do to my neighbors I have done it to Him. In fact, that's how Jesus puts it from the Bible. I could be wrong though.

I beleive that the bible has both the new and old testaments. The focus on Jesus's life is because it is through him that christians believe they will gain salvation. I think that the christian church does believe in old testament teachings but the focus is jesus christ. hence the term christianity.

Today world is great trouble. Everywhere quarrels are there. People are fighting with each other. Countries are doing the same. Most of us in tension for the some of other reason. The churt wants to reduce it. The life if Prabhu Jesus is full of teachings which will be helpful for mankind. So they are referring it first. The Church is the place where people gather leaving their pains with calm mind, so the Prists are trying to teach Jesus's leason to the common people. By this the tension may reduce upto some extent. Old testaments are also good. They must give stress on these also. People can also be educated with old testaments. Some Churches are there, who are referring to Old Testaments. Actually it should be 50 -50 ratio, you mean to say. Should we not request to Prists, Church authorities for starting from old testament. May be they accept our request. Let us join hands and start requesting at once....ok....are you ready with me Ms Betty....hope you are.

Christian Churches really focus on Jesus because He is the Chirst, thus the word "Christians." But in folloeing Jesus and focusing on His message, it doesnt mean that the Old Testament is already forgotten. In fact, to be able to fully understand Jesus Christ, one must read the Old Testament where the history of his earthly genealogy is written.

Hi! I'm not really sure with the methods of teaching before or even now, but focusing on Jesus Christ is probably the best thing for Christians. Because Jesus Christ is the best example or role model. His life is the best testimony in the Bible. I can't exactly remember where I read or heard this, but a Christian's mission or goal is to become like Christ. If you feel like serving God, look into Jesus' life. You'll have clues as to how to be a good child of Christ. But this doesn't mean to not pay attention to the Old Testament. It's equally important to know the Old Testament because there were many God's followers in that part. And the coming of Christ was mentioned in it, too. Hope I somehow answered your question.

Well, because the old testament was rules and guidlines that were set before Jesus came to earth and set us free from those, The old testament is used as history, what happened before. After Jesus came he saved us and instead of sacrificing sheep and things we are to ask for forgiveness. The old testament is still valid in its teachings, such as the commandments, but Jesus changed our lives and our salvation.

Actually in my church we go over both sections of the bible it's just that the Christian way is to learn from the experience from the Old Testament however with the New Testament is more fair on all grounds. Meaning woman, men, race and religion are all to be treated equal whereas with the Old Testament it focused on primarly 1 "race / family tree" and men were considered higher class than women instead of being more equally balanced.
