i have this friend of mine who i think is suffering from depression. i dont know if it is mild or severe but i see him lonely at times, get angry easily and drinks more often than before, thinks of suicide and laugh at himself sometimes. i wanna help him but how would i convince him that he is under this illness or maybe he would just laugh it all of.

i think your friend has a very big problem. He drinks too much because he can not take his problem. He is indeed in a very lowly state of depression. Try to be there for him always. Like drink with him but do not drink too much. Then slowly ask him his problem. Let him have the confindence to talk it with you. Win his trust. And let him express his feelings for you.

There is not much you can do except let him know that you are there for him always and it doesn't matter what time of day or night you will be there for him . Keep encouraging him to seek help but back off if it starts to agitate him as this may make him worse . Letting him know that you understand what he is trying to say and letting him know that you care about him very much will help also . But as much as you love your friend there is not much more you can do then to just always be there for him and let him know how much you really care as he has to go for help himself and you can't do this for him . But being consistent in letting him know how much you care and taking time out of your day for him may help him out more and get to the depression enough to let him know that you don't want anything to happen to him . The other thing you could try is to talk to your family doctor and ask if there is anything else he/she suggests that you may be able to do for your friend . Best of luck !!
