Immigration in the USA

I have a question that has been puzzling me and with the amount of publicity illegal immigration is getting in the US,this may be the time to get an answer. Why is it that if 2 illegal immigrants make their way into the US and have a child while in the US that the child is a legal immigrant while the parents can still be returned to the country of origin? The child is considered an American citizen? Can some PLEASE explain how this makes any sense??

The whole "illegals" status here in the US is beyond my understanding. I am perhaps too vocal in my disapproval of all the benefits they take from our country and how our government panders to them. I was a legal alien before I became a citizen. I followed all the rules and I had been a civilian employee of the US military for 12 year and married to an American for 8 of these years but that did not give me any freebies which the illegals enjoy. I paid taxes, and didn't brake any laws and spoke English. My son-in-law works with illegals and it tees him off when they get paid "under the table" and don't pay taxes but that is only because his boss is Mexican, a legal alien, who helps his fellow Mexicans. Grrrr!

You came into the country legally, you worked hard and paid taxes legally, but the govt. would not recognize you as citizen for a long time despite following the rules they set out? But if you were illegal you would have been classified as an American citizen long before? And this encourages others to follow the rules how?I guess I can't wrap my mind around the logic of international policy.

Unforunately there are many like me who are so disgusted with the illegals getting handled with kid gloves. Thank you for BR.

To tell you the honest goodness truth, it makes this immagrants have the ability to put there claws into the US or Canada and use that country for leverage if they need to escape from crime, violence or the law. It does not make sense. Their children should not have the ability to be American that way it is like cheating!!! and I hate cheater!

It is good to find that this does not only confuse me.I thought there were laws in the US (and Canada) that do not allow anyone to benefit from their illegal doings. If the parents were legally in the country, then I can understand the child being a citizen. But the other method still confuses me.
