Have you heard of what is called as "Happy Slapping"?

I just heard on the radio this morning about a new criminal activity that is occurring worldwide. It is called "Happy Slapping?" It has to do with people going around with the cell phone cameras and slapping or punching people and taking their phone while this is happening to get their facial reactions. They then publish the photos on the web and in some cases they robbed the people of their valuables at the same time. Anyone caught doing this can be arrested for assault and also harassment if they publish the pictures on the net or elsewhere. Here is a link about "Happy Slapping."

You are kidding?? How do they come up with this stuff? Some people just have way too much time on their hands! I have not heard of this but I can see it happening. Imagaine a total stranger someing up and slapping you. LOL I might pull out my 38 and then I would be in trouble. I am just shocked at the things that people think of to get into trouble doing. I know I shouldnt be but I am still shocked at the lack of respect that people have for others.

I am definitely not kidding as it was on the radio. At first I had a hard time believing this myself so I went on the internet and looked it up and it is something that has or is continuing to happen. It is amazing what people come up with to hurt other people. We probably should not be surprised about this or anything else that may happen.

it's been going on for a few years in england. i'm not sure if it as prevelant as it was as you don't hear about it as much and the penalties are very strict.

This is the first time that i have heard of "Happy Slapping" so I was kind of shocked about this new wave of crime. I guess it has not been too big here but could catch on with all the other crimes that are going on. Hopefully people will be aware of it and report it if it were to happen in the states or anywhere else.

I never heard of Happy Slapping ..wow..what a terrible thing that is..I am glad I dont walk around with a cell phone..I dont even like to cary my purse around..For the reason I thought it would make people think I have money..THanks for telling me of this!

It 's pretty bad when you can't even go down the street in peace!I am with that other responder,they better not try something like that with me, they'd wish they were never born,lol!I'd show them what this short little jersey girl could do,lol

You are very welcome for the link. I was not surprised about what you would do to someone if they tried that on you. LOL I bet you could rough them up. :-) This was the first time hearing about this myself but am not shocked about all the things that are happening these days. Makes me wonder what will be next.

If anyone happy slaps me they will get a really good picture of the inside of their mouth, because that is where I will stuff their phone. Or maybe somewhere else not quite so sanitary.
I think this 'happy slapping' is not going to catch on very well.
Especially if people just keep picking the wrong person to 'happy slap.'

i would be very unhappy too if they were to happy slap me. I loved your response of what you would do to them if they were to try that with you. It will come back to bite someone if they pick someone that will and could retaliate with great force. :-)

They do more than just slapping, people are getting badly beaten up and robbed and worse. It's a great game for total lowlife scumbags to play. A girl here got kicked full force in the head by a bloke while his friends looked on laughing, she fell against something and I think broke her arm so imagine if she had have hit her head against it instead of her arm. They put the video up on YouTube but it was taken down. People send the videos to everyone they know, it's sad. I have heard of a few doing it to the wrong person and getting their arses kicked though :)

Oh my gosh! I had heard of that! That is horrible!!!
I don't find that very humorous that someone would walk up to another and punch them to get a picture of their face afterwards! That is just down right wrong!!!
And I would be pressing charges against the individual that did that to me!
I am so glad that I stay in my home now! I would hate to be out running errands and then just have someone come up to me for no reason and hit me!!!

Yeah I read about this, this morning also. I send the story to my nephew. Asking him isn't he glad that he lives in the US and not France. Him and his friends do this type of thing all the time. They post teasers of the video's they make on Myspace. Then sell them. It would be agaist the law if he lived in France. lol how silly, is that law. I find it stupid.

From what I understand only some people are doing stuff like that hitting people they don't know. People that are no apart of the press, if they catch a violent act or stupid act that hurts someone and they are not a member of the press, they face jail time and fines. If they publish it.

Living my sheltered little life I had not heard of this before. Thank you so much for sharing this. I will pass on the info to my other country cousins who only travel to the big city as a special treat. This Happy Slapping could ruin anyone's day. What will we have to watch out for next?

You know when they came out with the cell phones with cameras in them I just knew it was going to cause problems ...why people can't just have respaect for others and leave well enough alone is beyond me ... I must say if some one comes up to me and slaps me to see a reaction they might get more then they bargined for ...lol This is so crazy ..and no i hadn't heard of this so thanks for posting this discussion on this topice very helpful to find theses things out ...:D

hehehe. i never heard of this till now.. i think if someone does this to me i will make sure he will end up regretting doing it to me in jail. i hate being slapped. i wont allow anyone to do this to me..

Gee... How could such thing be happy? I agree that that kind of activity be punished, it not a good idea or a joke even. What if the person "victim" has some heart attack, will they be able to handle that? Its good that it has been prohibitted. That is invading of person.

i know this isnt really helpful for your discussion, but if anyone tried HAPPY SLAPPING me im sure they wouldnt be so happy when i catch them. and they probably would lose valuables, not me, like valuable freedom when i drag their butts to jail, LOL.

that is the most retarded thing ive ever heard!!!pweople are so wierd and stupid these days.There was this teenage couple who went on a purse snatching spree where i live.They were hitting up the customers leaving from places like walmart and stuff and the saddest part is thier vivtims were old ladies.I think its so sad what people do to other people.
