Believe it or not. Ants like hard drives. I just found that out to the cost of my hard drive. And I also found out out that this is more common than we think. The servicemen told me that he had seen many such cases even though he has been in the job for only a short period of time. It seems that the ants don't mind the heat of the hard drive. I think they like eating some rubbery part of the hard drive. I noticed some ants last week on near my computer. I cleaned them out. But I forgot to check the inside of my computer. The cruel part you are not entitled to a replacement for your hard drive if the failure is caused by ants, since the company blames it on negligence on your part. But I was lucky enough to get a free replacement. So if anyone else sees ants close to your computer beware and take all the necessary precautions. Regards

I didn't think of getting the photos of ants eating away the hard drive. I was more worried about how to get the data stored in the drive. I had lots of pictures of my family in that drive which I didn't back up on to a cd. I will know by monday whether the data can be retrieved. Come to think of it the photo of the ants coming in out of the hard drive might have been good. Shucks opportunity lost. Regards

Sounds like a SciFi story. Do you use your computer outside? Ants??? Wow, and I thought the spiders in the house were bad.

It is not science fiction. No I don't use my computer outside. The ants probably came to eat the small food particles left near my computer by my nephew. They must have thought " Lets check whether they make good quality hard drive nowadays". They must have an answer by now. I haven't heard of any problems caused by spiders but I hadn't heard of any trouble created by ants to computer. So I guess we learn the hard way. Regards

A good reason why you shouldn't eat or drink while you're working. Thanks for the tip.
