The Death Penalty... Right or Wrong???

So a person decides to go on a shooting spree... kills 50 people... then finally gets caught. Should he get 100+ years in jail or should he just get a rope around his neck and be hanged? I know there are many people who believe in both sides of the coin... Others believe that life is sacred and no one has the right to judge whether a criminal dies or not... human rights & stuff like that. Then there are others who feel that if this criminal had no regard for his victims' lives... then why should he/she live? Shouldn't he/she also die... like those he inflicted violence to? What's your opinion?
