I have a dachshund. They have a very unusual body type, being so short and long.
i have bought her many outfits/sweaters only to return them. They are always not long enough or not big/small enough around the body. I have used baby clothes but really need to find a good place to get some sweaters. She is so cold in the winter, and loves to have a little extra to keep her warm.
I even made a couple crocheting.but do not have a pattern, so it was not the best looking thing!LOL
I would like to know where you get sweaters for your dog and what kind of dog you have.

I could do them myself if I could get a good pattern. I sew and crochet. I even have family that sew so I could not go to others. If someone sent me a pattern I would so them myself. I have tried but am not good without a pattern, My mom could do anything and made her own patterns, too. I wish she was alive to do it for me, the pattern at least.
As far as meeting new people I have already met 2 and they both seem very nice and helpful. They both got + from me!

I usually purchase my dogs clothing on e-bay. There is one site that I just love purchasing items from on e-bay which is called "Doggy-Petwear." I find the items I had purchased for our little bundle of cuteness have always ended up working out great for us. Which is nice to is they are very honest sellers as well. If something doesn't fit or you need a certain size they will be more than willing to exchange for a larger size.
Once we purchased a cute little sweater for our pup for Christmas.. And it was supposed to light up. And it didn't & they we're willing to send us extra batteries for free just so we wouldn't have to pay extra. I thought it was so thoughtful of them to do this for us like they had. Just be cautious with a lot of buyers off of e-bay. Make sure to read the customers reviews on how things had gone with them purchasing from the seller.
A lot of sellers on that site are willing to make customized hoodies or sweaters for your dog. I know I've had to have this done because our little Jack Russell sometimes has a difficult time fitting in to some of the dog clothes they sell sometimes. Plus I wanted customized sayings on her hoodies to. I know she just loves the hoodies we have bought her. As it was a rather cold winter down here, & even though we are having nice weather now down here.. You never know when it's going to turn cold all over again.
You may want to just put in the search engine "Dachshund dog clothing." Sometimes just searching for a specific breed in general helps.. But not always.. I thought I'd throw it out there anyways.. I know we've been able to find a lot of places online that cater to our puppy & the breed of dog she is in general. So you may want to try this as well.
I know how it can be to find a sweater in general that suits your dog. I have been there so I feel your pain. I know my other half & me have gone through shares of looking for the right sweaters for our dog.. We've had some bad experiences but eventually came across a style that suits her very well & keeps her rather warm as well at the same time..
In conclusion.. That is all I could recommend. You may want to search for places that are able to customize a sweater or clothing for your dog in general. Sometimes they have designs you can choose from already. Or sometimes you can even give them idea's on the design you are looking for, or even styles..
I do wish you all the best.. As I know we've had our problems with looking for clothes though to. Thankfully we eventually found a style, along with look that worked well for her. She just loves her hoodies & gets mad when we take them off as they help to keep her warm. I truly do hope you find what you are looking for. All the best of luck! . .
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

Thank you for the long well thought out post. I will definitely do a more detailed search. I did find one from the sites above that does a special size for doxies, but have not had time to look at it well. I am also using the excuse to go to the flea market tomorrow. I want a crochet pattern for her that I can do my self and may have found one but It is not really what I want. I can make a cover type one and have a pattern for it. I need something like a sweater of a hoodie. I did buy a small, and took it back, with her in tow. and the Med were to big, the small to small. I kept the med, and did some tucks and pleats, but it does not look to good. I have a couple that she can wear. They just fit her poorly and she walks out of them or they pinch her a little going on, etc.

Have you tried www.barkslope.com? I have never tried them, but I found them surfing the internet. I have a full blood Chihuahua, and a 7/8 Chihuahua 1/8 Corgi. They are dolls, but hard to fit. Strangely enough, on occasion I can find something for them to wear at my local Walgreens.

Tammyr,There's a company that makes patterns for horse, dogs and horse show apparel. www.suitability.com .I bought a dog blanket pattern for small dogs and it has places where you can add and subtract to customize the fit.The pattern could be made in different fabrics for different occasions.

I love to make dog clothes. Here is an example of one of my outfits. I know several people who have dogs and never can find an outfit to fit them so that is why I started making them clothes.
