I have been rating good for many people, not sure how others are rating my discussions as that facility is not available here. Just wanted to know how does it affect our earning for both the sides, I mean for the person who has started/commented and the person who has rated.

This is what is written in the FAQs:
The DRS is factored into our proprietary earnings algorithm, so this will help us properly reward valuable contributions to the myLot community.
By the way, DRS stands for Discussion Rating System. So I guess that means that people who get rated positively will benefit in earnings.

I believe that if you give someone a 'best response' or a positive (+) rating that affects their overall rating and will increase their earnings but as far as I know the person who does these things does not directly benefit. However if all the members who start a discussion give a 'best response' and everyone gives a positive (+) rating to those who make quality responses, then you will benefit because it could be you who receives one of them.
I think that to give a best response or positive rating is an acknowledgement of the thought the person who has responded has put into the discussion. I give both of them when and where applicable which means that in general I want more than 1 or 2 word responses. :)
