I am against spanking regularly but u know, sometimes it depends on the situation.I am a housewife taking care of my child.I was a full time proffessor in Computer Sciences.n now I m not working totally. So sometimes everything overwhelmes me like doing unimportant household chores or when my kid just scatters water all over n i ve to do that room again...Things get out of control n u dont know where to start..whoever comes first before u has to bear the burden of listening n yapping...usually its my kid who is at home so she has to bear the brunt n gets spanked sometimes for no major fault of hers...n i regret it afterwards....In an ideal world,I wont be spanking my child...

There are other more effective ways of discplining children than hitting them. You could lock them in the cellar without light (an empty one, so that they don't break anything in return - that teaches them how jail must be terrible), or feed them only vegetables until they quieten down, or deprive them of presents on special occasions if they do not behave during a certain period

I for one am against spanking children atleast regularly. Previously I myself held a view that children become good only when their parents spank them. But, of late, I have seen quite a few parents using other effective techniques other than spanking to get their children to behave.
Techniques like rewarding, negotiating, getting the child into other activities are things which can be tried out in lieu of spanking. After all they are the cynosure of our eyes.
Cheers!
