I have three dogs, and all three have nick names that they come to, that they know as well as their actual name. My older lab, his name is Private Quarters and we call him glow dog. Because he is so clean that at night he glows in the dark. Then we have two St. Bernards. The older ones name is General Bob and we call him Fat Boy. Obvious reasons. And then our puppy St. Bernard, his name is Zeus, but we call him little pudge.

OH my gosh, my dogs have had so many knick names.
Athena gets called Feens and Pretty Girl
Grish gets called Mr Grish and Chewbacca
Hobbes went from Hobbes, to Hobbeser, to Hobbsie-Bear to just Bear. I call him Bear so much, he answers to both names.
My little beagle is everything from funny-face, silly-face, fuzzy-face, punkin-face, stinky, baby D and even My Pretty Brown Eyes. I've had him a LOOONG time, he gets plenty of nicknames.

Well the nicknames I give my dog are more of a joke but I call her poopy instead of puppy, stinker, bratty, fatty, baby cakes. I just kind of find them falling out of my mouth. I don't really think about what I call her I just do.

Well coffeeshoot!it seems that for your dog these nicknames doesn't matter since you have nicknamed him so many, but its you whose voice he recognise.he understands that when you need him, when you are calling him.thats the characteristics and loyality of a dog.

My fiance named our dog Jenny years ago when we got her. We have many nicknames for her. And she reponds to all of the them. Geneva, Jennifer, Jenny, Chunky-butt, Dippy, Jonny, Blondie, and Mama. I know that its not good to have many names for your dog, but over the years, you can't help but come up with nicknames. People do the same things with kids.
