Hi
My best friend is working with me as a junior assistant. He is unable to do most of the work and generally doesn't deserve a wage. I want him out of the business but we've been friends since childhood. He seems unable to learn the required skills (programming languages) but I don't want to hurt his feelings.
How should I fire him with out hurting him?
NOTE: his job with me is not what supports him

Are you kidding with this question? No disgrace, but you shouldn't even hire him in the first place!
Don't you watch The Apprentice? Those who became "good friends" on the show are the ones who would have it harder on board room when facing each other. That'll never work.

I think you need to let him go . never hired a friend . and if he is a true friend he will understand an still be a true friend after you let him go.

yeah, i suppose so. ill just have to explain to him that there are certain requirements for the job and he just doesnt have the skills. if he can learn the skills, i might be able to hire him.
