I am an engineer but when I was yet young I thought of becoming a teacher. I love kids and I enjoyed reading stories to my cute little nieces and nephews when I was still in high school. I even love it when some of our neighbors' children will join and and eager to listen to the story I'm reading to them. It really feels great when the kids will pay attention to what you are reading and later on answer your question when you do some question and answer stuffs about the story. Somehow it feels great to have given them some little learnings and they would keep on asking to read to them another story or give their story books to me and ask me to read it for them.
What about you, have you ever tried reading a story aloud to some kids on your family or neighbors? How does it feel when the children are listening closely to you?

I always read stories to my children when they were small and they also like to read to each other. Now I read to my grandchildren and they in turn read to me. They are very inquisitive and are always looking to know more than what is in the story so I have to make up answers and sometimes I would ask them their thought about the stories. I have gone through so many books with them that I was continuously buying new books but now I found a couple of sites where I can either read the online (or print them) or have them sent by email. At the moment I am reading Grimms Fairy Tales to them.
Here is the link to the sites in case others are interested:

I have been doing this since I was a 5th grader. I love it when my younger brothers will squat on the floor, listening attentively, and then participating when I do some sort of evaluation based on the story I have read to them. Most of the times, I read fairy tales to them..but during the month of May, where we have the "Flores de Mayo", some sort of Christian living education done every summer for the children in our neighborhood, I often volunteer to read the children some Bible stories. It really feels great to see those kids really interested and learning from the story some values and lessons in life.
And since I took up teacher education when I went to college, I often do these especially during my practice teaching phase, that's before our graduation. And much more when I taught in a montessori school here. Children really loves listening to stories and I love reading to them seeinf how a simple story I have read would affect their lives a bit.

Reading aloud makes me sleep, so i tell the children stories that I heard from my grandmoms by heart not by reading.Somehow if I repeat a story , children are so attentive that if i had left out something they remember and correct me as well.

My children are very young (1 and 2) but I still read to them whenever I can. My two year old son already has favourite books that he will bring to me (even if he'll only sit still for a couple of pages).
I can't wait until they are older and I can start reading chapter books to them. Stuff like Anne of Green Gables, Charlottes Web, The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Hobbit, The Great Brain.

I love reading to kids too! I used to do it all the time when I was younger and babysat all the time. I now read books to my friends' kids. It's so much fun to get creative and use different voices with the kids, as well as let them ask questions and use the books as a way to learn and explore. Besides, it's the best way to put a kid to sleep sometimes!

I read aloud to my nephews often and have been since they were babies. Partly because I love to read to them/with them and partly because I can speak three languages (including my native) so they are exposed to them as well. It's always a great feeling when they pay attention and are interested.
