Antisemitism on the job

I work for a company that has strict rules about people's rights and the laws that are set down. It is also a company that has union involvement. I tread lightly not to offend others and to respect their rights.
Yesterday I was offended by a term used about the sale of a trailer that belonged to a coworker. That coworker used a term in ignorance and I asked her to refrain from the use of it and that I was offended. She refused to do so and verbally attacked me about something that happened earlier in the day as an excuse to behave poorly toward me. There were two other people in the room at the time and they overheard her beligerent ravings. I have since taken the matter to upper management and reported it in writing.
I now fear that my job will be threatened since I have only been there for five months. I love my job and I enjoy working with the people there.
Did I do the right thing in this matter and how would you handle it?

If you feel it was needed, so much so you reported it, it probably is the better choice. If the job doesn't allow you to make complaints or set things right, trouble regardless, how would you feel?
Letting stuff slide all the time because a job didn't allow you to reasonably report an incident without risking your job, or even just suffering from your stifling fear all the time while you would be there doesn't sound too pleasant an alternative.

That is what crossed my mind during the day as I thought more about what the coworker had said. I try to respect everyone else's views and feelings and I would never knowinly say something that offended someone else. I have put in for a transfer if the opportunity arrises since we have many in the area. There is one nearer to where I live that wants me to join their staff. I did this weeks ago. Now I wait to see what happens.
